Today has not gone as planned. Sometime late last night, my water heater blew a seam, soaking my basement and damaging guitar cases, but not damaging any guitars. I spent today arranging for it to be replaced. Tomorrow I’m flying to Los Angeles to write a thing for Road&Track that some of you are really going to like, I hope. I was planning to drive to Detroit at 4AM so I could see the introduction of the Mustang, then drive home, then drive to the airport, but I lost the seven hours it would take to do that getting the new water heater installed. Well, that and making this very regrettable video.
Today is my friend Melisa’s birthday. She’s had a tough month — somebody pulled out in front of her and her car was totaled and she was hurt a little bit. In her honor, Patrick and I did a song for her. I flubbed the solo, even though I know it, but we couldn’t redo it because I lost my voice. These things happen. Happy Birthday, Melisa. You’re a great writer with a lot of great stories left in you, and I remain a fan.

Unfortunate that your going to miss the big event.
I was at the local Ford dealership about a half hour before the dealership opened to the public to show the Mustang in 1964. To my surprise, no one else was waiting to see the reveal. I could see the car under a cover in the middle of the showroom where it was the only car on the floor. Just before the doors opened, another gentleman showed up, but he didn’t know about the Mustang. I was the only one there early, who did.
It was a plain white coupe with a L-6 and auto. Turns out, it would be 20 years before I bought a new one.

I lost my whole library of pre-war and post war auto mags(and others), books, pictures, drawings, and plans in 1974, when on vacation we had a deep freeze and power failure. The pipes broke in the house and it flooded the top floor and drained down into my basement office and library. A devastating loss not covered by insurance. After three days of water running the house and contents were nearly a total loss.

Ah, the joys of home ownership. Sorry about the guitar cases, Jack. That stinks.
Here’s a site I’ve found that has guitar cases (many dead-nuts original copies) pretty cheap. I’ve ordered stuff from here, including pickups and electronics - even a project guitar, and the stuff has been good. Another buddy, a luthier, says a great deal of their product is from the exact same Asian factories that supply big name manufacturers. You’re buying the same quality, just sans Fender “F” logo or Gibson script.
