It’s always nice to see something I’ve written get a second wind, and thanks to my friend Ronnie Schreiber, that’s exactly what happened today.
A first-drafty thing I wrote at the request of TTAC’s current kinda-head-honcho Derek Kreindler, Stick It To ‘Em is meant to be about manual transmissions, buyer preconceptions, and everything else in the auto business. As usual, there were a few Asperger’s cases who wanted to bray about some exception they’d seen to my assertion, but in general it’s been received well by readers both at TTAC and on Instapundit, where Glenn Reynolds “Instalanched” it this morning. Ronnie’s always hitting Glenn up with my stuff and as a result this is perhaps the fifth time I’ve had the honor of appearing on Instapundit’s front page. I’m grateful to both Ronnie and Glenn for this one.

Good read. Especially this part:
“While you’re busy displaying your autism spectrum disorder by lecturing the salesman about the actual cam lobe profile on a car you’re thinking about buying two jobs from now and for which you expect to pay invoice minus holdback, three families in used SUVs have come in and bought new SUVs and the store has grossed them front, back, used, and F&I. You mean nothing to a dealer. Period.”
Have you been talking to Dan Gavinski at Reid Bros?
It’s all your own work Jack, Glenn’s a fan. The good professor and I exchange emails now and then but I had nothing to do with this Instalanche.
I did, however, tell Sarah Hoyt about the 100 MPG Carburetor story. She writes science fiction and it sort of has a bit of a Twilight Zone feel to it. I don’t know if she liked it or not but she thanked me.
Ah, there’s nothing like an Instalanche! I’ve benefited just once, but it was a doozy: Reynolds posted an Amazon link to a book of mine. Mailing him an early review copy was a rare smart marketing move for me.
