It was a hell of a day, the day this photo was taken. It was possible to run the twin-turbo Roller pretty quickly down this road and I think I kept surprising Peter, the photographer, by arriving at the shot location too soon.

Fitting shot for a Rolls.
I clicked on the link and then two paragraphs into it, realized I had the actual magazine on my desk I bought yesterday. I am too lazy and haven’t reloaded all of my subscriptions with my now finally permanent address.
Honest criticism; it is probably the best piece of yours I have ever read in R&T. It is vintage Baruth in that it sent me to the dictionary at least once (distaff), mentioned a great bar, female companionship, conveyed the experience of driving and was a tour through history.
On paper, linking the Wraith to a Duesenberg seems like a stretch, but you made the thread effortlessly and after I finished the article, it seems logical to the point of “Duh, of course they are!” I win;t trying to kiss up, it was just a really well written and entertaining contribution.
I havent gotten through the issue yet, but how did Gluckman get to write about the Green Hellcat before you.
The last time I was in a Rolls, I was 18. I loved it then…damn near married the boy whose family owned just to get the car. It was incomparable then. Seems it still is…loved the article.
Ok, I read the article an hour ago or so, and a few beers later it occurred to me. Did you actually get to drive the Duesenberg? I don’t recall that being mentioned. Given a choice, and as wonderful as the Wraith is, I would prefer to take any Duesenberg for a drive any day.
Another beer driven memory at this point, if you haven’t seen the movie The Wraith with Charlie Sheen and the Dodge Turbo Interceptor, I highly recommend it for no other reason than it is horrible, but I am still waiting for Dodge to build me that car. It’s about a “car gang”, and at 14 years old or so, the cars were cool.

Nice article and great writing as usual. That being said, I agree with the sentiments on your article of the decline of Bentley on TTAC. Is the Wraith really a Rolls in the old sense?

This is why Jack is one of my favorite authors in the automotive world. A well written and intelligent article that actually has something to say. I may not always agree with Jack, but at least he has something to say, and in an entertaining way.
Most articles on automotive websites I don’t bother reading past the headline, because the article rarely has anything more to say. If I want specs and quarter mile times, etc. I can go look those up. I don’t need to read a 30th article on the new mustang just because it has one new technical detail. What I want from journalism is to tell me something about what it all means, explain to me to why this important or why I should care about it, what’s the context for all this data?
Some of your best work ever. Seriously entertaining.
