Actually they seemed to come at crazy angles from all side. It looked like the comment section in a local newspaper.
I’m sorry to see that you fell for that ComSonics puff piece. It isn’t real and will never happen. The original Virginian-Pilot PR article obliquely mentioned “legislative red tape” as a challenge for this tech, ie it violates FCC regs. Plus just think about how most people “text” today…iMessage, whatsapp, various messenger programs that use data and not SMS, etc. You don’t have to think hard about the technology to know the whole concept is impractical.
I will also give credit where it’s due, my state’s (NC) texting while driving law only bans communicating (so Google Maps is legal) and also stipulates that texting is OK if “legally stopped” (ie traffic light or traffic jam).
I’m not sure if falling for it is the right phrase — obviously there are legislative hurdles. But it’s just as true that LIDAR guns can blind motorists and cause accidents — yet that didn’t slow their adoption by that much.
