You Gotta Keep The Devil Way Down In The Hole

I have to say, this could have gone better.

The problem with praising Satan is that, you know, there are consequences. I forgot the lyrics. Patrick’s hands hurt all the way through the song. I accidentally unplugged the power on my wah pedal and consequently had all sorts of weird volume issues, which unnerved me so much I stopped playing. We decided it would be tempting fate to try recording it a second time. The roof might cave in or something.

Today’s video guitar is the MusicMan JP6 Mystic Dream. Birds-eye maple neck, flip-flop color-change paint, piezo bridge and some kind of super-powerful DiMarzio humbuckers.

We might have to play a Stryper song just to swing fate back our way. I sure hope not.

I just want to re-iterate that these videos usually take place ten-twenty minutes after we learn a song. In this case, it’s a song that we knew, but not how to play. One thing that becomes apparent after you play a Steve Harris bassline at full speed: it’s not for out-of-shape sissies. I figured out all the parts, but the endurance required to perform the song at the correct tempo was beyond me. Back to the woodshed, with a focus on forearm strength! Also: I think some of the errors made here would have been glossed over with a drummer. Anyone in Central Ohio want to explore their inner Nicko?
