The Internet In A Single Image

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. Except for those who cannot spell or punctuate correctly — they go on the Internet and (incorrectly) correct the mistakes of others.

This has been a slow week for me in terms of contributions elsewhere, but if you are interested in the SCCA’s “Tracknight in America” program you can read my take on it here and Bark’s take on it here. And the meta-coverage of Bark’s coverage here.

Last week I finished up a long-form story that I hope will appear in next month’s Road&Track. It features fascinating cars, great locations, beautiful women, carbon-fiber guitars, and homeless encampments. Soon as it’s in print I’ll let you all know.

What, nobody posted that it’s Guns N’ Roses? Not guns and roses? What idiots.

Why are you writing about my week in Miami?

I’ve read some good posts in my day (and there has been a ton of quality debate on this site and TTAC), and I may or may not have made a few worthy ones, but overall I think comment sections on any website are a bad idea. I don’t hold the belief that everyone should have a voice.

I think the comments on CBS’ coverage of the Women’s World Cup final sums up my feelings quite well…

      From that comments section

“It it still a hat trick if no one throws a single hat”

      That’s funny.

TTAC is sucking badly lately as there’s been a shortage of relevant, strongly voiced op/eds or pieces more generally on hotly contests topics or critique of automotive culture/manufacturers/marketing (i.e. lies) writ large.

Get back in the game with another Watery Big Bang or Letter to Lincoln or Letter to Cadillac, Jack - it’s needed now more than ever.

I couldn’t agree more. I loved the Avoidable Contact series and TTAC needs to bring it back, or a close facsimile thereof.

    Jack,

What is your status on TTAC now? Generally prefer what is written on this site anyways (especially over the last few months as TTAC seems to have significantly gone downhill), but noticed the flow of posts there from you is now barely a trickle.

I’m doing two pieces a week right now. When I was running the place I was tossing a lot more in the hopper. However, I’ll be doing a weekly column at R&T starting… tomorrow!

And of course, we can’t forget one of the greatest and undeservedly forgotten oratorio singers of the modern era, Aksel Schiøtz.

    AKSEL.

His “Every Valley” from “Messiah” is still considered by many to be the greatest ever. That recording was made in 1940, so the sound is surprisingly good.
