It’s finally happened: two illegal immigrants have been appointed to government office in California.
Now, to be fair, these are unpaid positions (insert joke about immigrants working for lower wages) and they are advisory in nature. You can read the details if you like but it boils down to this: The city of Huntington Park has appointed two illegal immigrants to positions as commissioners of health and parks, respectively. With these appointments, Huntington Park has effectively declared itself above federal law.
This is a good thing.
While I’m not in favor of America’s current hypocritical immigration situation that made people like my friend Sata, a multi-lingual Dutch citizen of Japanese ancestry with numerous professional qualifications, wait a decade to get a freaking green card but which allows penniless Mexicans to swell welfare rolls in the Southwest, I fully support the idea of rebellion, however minor, against higher authority.
Like the country recorder who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses on ethical principles, the city of Huntington Park has decided that they need to reserve the right to defy the Feds. When something like this happens, it causes friction in the system, and friction in the system is how we prevent the arrival of fascism wearing the American flag.
Or Communism wearing the American flag, if you like — but the current cozy arrangement between multinational corporations and the Federal Government is far closer to traditional National Socialism than Trotsky Socialism.
So bully for Huntington Park. But here’s the problem. The various officials who have refused to comply with the Supreme Court diktat on same-sex marriage have all been removed or disciplined in fairly short order. Will Huntington Park’s next council meeting feature a surprise appearance by the Immigration and Naturalization Service?
If it does not — if we continue to live in this Obama era where the feds only enforce the laws that are currently popular — then we have a far more troubling problem than any amount of civil disobedience could cause. We have a county where some laws are more equal than others. And when that happens, we are no longer a nation under the rule of law as we know it.
There’s been a time in history where governments didn’t just enforce the laws that were popular or prioritized by the current administration?

There are loads of guns in California. Many people bead to the desert to shoot guns, ride dirt bikes and camp. If the 2nd amendment is null in California, then how did this guy get so many firearms? Maybe he was preparing for a revolution that never came.

I’ve never seen a more lawless administration. The entire federal bureaucracy has been politicized and our employees use governmental power to benefit themselves and harm those they see as their enemies. It’s not just federal employees either. It’s gotten to the point that if you work for the government, I just assume you’re self-serving, likely corrupt in one way or another, and will treat me with less human respect than a greater at WalMart would.
I managed waste for a DuPont paint lab and took some graduate engineering courses in hazwaste management. The textbook for the course on public policy was the Code of Federal Regulations, part 49. Filling out a Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest for shipping stuff to be disposed of carried with it the possibility of criminal penalties if done improperly. That’s for filling out a form. Now does anyone think even a single employee of the EPA will suffer any consequences at all for their release of contaminated water from that mine?
As long as EPA malfeasants fill out the paperwork, they may continue to rape with impunity.
The truly disturbing part is that this particular brand of fundamental transformational change convinced enough Americans to garner two national elections. So either the electorate had a good look and liked what they saw or they were too uninformed, lazy, distracted or lacking in vigilance to know better.
So in essence any laws /ordinances/contracts ect adressed by the board is null and void because of the lack of quorum of qualified members?

Regardless, the city of Huntington Park isn’t anything to get worked up over. I imagine ICE will pay these commissioners a visit soon and there will be a couple of vacancies that need to be filled.
It is sad to see but it’s clear America stopped following the rule of law some time ago. It used to be the Supreme court would at least pretend to be interpreting laws and rationalizing their decisions through penumbras and other mumbo-jumbo. Now they just brazenly say words mean whatever they want them to mean.
And as for selective enforcement - that’s a foregone conclusion these days. Does anyone really think Hillary Clinton will face any consequences for blatantly violating federal laws with her private e-mail server?
