Return Of The Long Form

It’s been six months since I wrote an “Avoidable Contact” for TTAC, but with the aid of insomnia I was able to knock one out last night.

It’s called Return Of The Mack and I’ve been pleased to see it have a site-leading day with plenty of visitors from other sites. Some of the more literal-minded readers are having some trouble with it — I’m not saying that the cars of 2013 are equal to the cars of 1973, I’m suggesting that they are to the cars of five years ago what the cars of 1973 were to the cars of 1968 — but overall it’s been well-received.

In the next week or so, I’m hoping to publish another eight or ten thousand words on the site — including a Sunday Story that, just this once, will have nothing to do with the perils of middle-aged romance.

I really enjoyed your article on TTAC, and am enjoying this embedded video even more. I’m not ashamed to say I had the cassette single of this song in high school, and I rocked it hard on the 12″ Rockfords I had in my ’81 Buick Regal. Those were the days.

Anyway, my neighbors just bought a 2011 E90 328i. They were initially looking to lease a new F30, but they fell in love with the turbine-like power delivery of the 3.0 liter inline 6, and also feel it’s more of a known quantity when it comes to reliability and maintenance.

It’s also got a manual transmission and does not have iDrive! I have advised them to hold onto it as it’ll likely be a very desirable car for BMW enthusiasts 10 or so years from now. Could they have the last, best 3 series?
