Praise for the S2000? That accident has clearly had a lasting impact on your psyche, Jack.

    LMAoff! Really.

Its not the cars, its the lame mentality of the commentors.

    Long live the Miata.

Great column… And I absolutely loved my first-gen Miata. It was an absolute blast to drive.

    Well done Jack!

I owned my ’96 M Edition for 13 years, posting 180k miles, just routine maintenance, an all-seasons driver for me. Wonderful auto.

I exchanged it for my ’12 MINI Cooper S, another “chick” or “ghey” car, so I’m told ad nauseum. Really? And there’s no telling these Neanderthals that more men than women purchase MINIs, nor that a MINI is not near the top of vehicles purchased by women; the top being populated, of course, by RAV4s, CRVs, and so forth.

A shame. I’ve lived long enough to witness this shift as well, becoming of driving age in that era when MGAs, MGBs, Spitfires, TR4s, and so forth were oh so common. And when driving one wasn’t a quick barometer of your testosterone level.

    See you at the DQ.

Miatas are like fat chicks, fun to ride till your friends see you.

I’ve been lusting after a manual mid-2000s NB Miata in LS trim. All signs point to it as being the closest thing to replacing my old Suzuki GS that’s got four wheels.

The ribbing from friends has already begun and I haven’t even bought one yet! (Still searching.) I am married and comfortable in my own skin.

But if I’m honest, a younger, single, less mature version of me would not have owned one. I bought into the stereotypes. It wasn’t until I drove one and saw a few lapping Lyme Rock that I realized what they truly are: Go-kart smile machines.

I’m now comfortable enough to own one and with the pending sale of my bike, it will be the next best thing.

Jack I think the miata was always a chick car. When I was a kid I was a truck guy and I was about 9 when the miata come out and Ive always thought of it as a girls car even before the internet (OK you got me we had Qlink)
There was entire episode of two and half men years ago talking about a boxter being a chick Porsche
