It’s been a busy 48 hours, not helped in the least by the fact that I appear to be dying from some sort of superbug flu. This Alex Roy story has already taken pride of place as the most immediately-popular thing we’ve posted in the past 365 days.
There’s more to come, of course, not all of it having to do with tricked-out Infiniti Q50s. In the meantime, if you need me I’ll be coughing Audi-colored junk into a Domino’s napkin.
To borrow a short-lived Dodge motto, topics like this are never neutral: they get either admiring glances and the text equivalent thereof, or they get sharp reproaches from people who think it’s a really terrible idea. Doubles the clicks right there.

My question exactly. As I stated, I very much thought the story was an elaborate April Fool’s joke, but even as such, is Alex really as big a d-bag as the “interview” made him out to be? Because if he is a cool guy, he certainly let himself be thoroughly misrepresented as a twat in service to the “joke.” And if he is that big a twat, why would he want that fact to be strewn across the internet as other sources pick up the fake story and run with it (which appears now to be the entire point of the exercise). Confusing either way. Bordering on French absurdity. Which means I still want my 30 minutes back (now 40) which I will take in track time instruction.

I was pretty sure* it was a joke, and it turned out that it was, but it just had a sour twist to me. Scientists could calibrate absolute 0 by measuring how little I care about Alex Roy because it is equal to how little he would (or should) care about me, but the whole thing was just odd. You swung for the fences though, and you got a lot of buzz, and who gives a shit what think? Good job, I guess. Could have made it funnier and more subtle I suppose, but thankfully I don’t write for a living so what do I know?

I caught a terrible flu in January. I was sick for 17 days and was even hospitalized at one point. Damn near killed me.
On the Cannonball story, quite a read. James Joyce would be proud. Love to see Yates post his comments on it.

Regarding your sinus/respiratory infection, it’s probably bacterial, since that’s what has been going around SW Michigan like an epidemic (cousin is a pediatrician), and if so, you will need a 3rd or 4th gen cephalosporin (antibiotic) unless you want to have a refuse-to-quit, month or longer illness.
